FRIM promotes nature photography

11 September 2012 (Tuesday) – The Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has organised a one-day free-of-charge Workshop on Basic Nature Photography on 8 September for secondary school students in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

The aim of the workshop, conducted by Puan Rosdiana Mohd Radzi from Academi Dianty Foto, was to promote nature photography and enhance nature appreciation amongst the younger generations.

The workshop, held in FRIM, Kepong, was attended by 40 participants comprising mainly students from 14 secondary schools in the Klang Valley and several interested FRIM staff.

Among others, the participants were exposed to the basic techniques, the proper methods of taking pictures and they were also given some interesting tips on nature photography.

FRIM Director General Dato’ Dr Abd Latif Mohmod, who officiated the closing of the workshop, also presented certificates to the participants at the end of the programme.

Also present were the CCU Head Puan Norhayati Nordin, Public Relations Officer, Puan Azmarizawati Zainal Azhar and workshop facilitators, Yusof Mohamed and Chew Meng Yee.

This was the first of two nature photography workshops organised by the FRIM CCU in conjunction with the on-going FRIM Photography Competition 2012 themed, “Uniquely FRIM”, which started on 1 Sept till end of the month.

The second photography workshop, to be conducted by FRIM photographers, Asmar Hassan and Yusni Idris, will be held at the Research Station in Mata Ayer, Perlis, on 15 September 2012. Some 50 students from 22 secondary schools in Perlis have registered their participation.

The workshop participants will also be encouraged to join the FRIM Photography Competition. This is the first time that FRIM’s photography competition covers the main campus in Kepong as well as three research stations—Mata Ayer in Perlis, Pasoh in Negeri Sembilan and Bidor, Perak.

The competition consists of three categories—Open, Research Stations and Students; with top prizes being RM3,000, RM2,000 and RM 1,000 respectively.
