|
These forests are mainly found north Johore, east Negeri Sembilan, west and south (parts) Pahang and north Terengganu. They are characterised by a high percentage of the Balau or Heavy Hardwood group of Shorea, of which S. atrinervosa, S. exelliptica and S. maxwelliana are the commonest, and principally S. maxwelliana though this species is uncommon in north Terengganu. Neobalanocarpus heimii is frequently present in these forests though by no means restricted to them, and when present appears almost to replace the Balau species. Dipterocarpus spp. And species of the Red Meranti group of Shorea are also frequently present. |
