FORESTRY IN MALAYSIA

LOWLAND EVERGREEN RAIN FORESTS

  1. Lowland Dipterocarp Forests

  • Merbau-kekatong (Intsia - Cynometra) forests

This forest type is found in the foothills of the main range and some riverine areas near the foothills and is usually very deficient in dipterocarps. It occurs in north Peninsular up to Weng Valley and in Gunung Inas Forset Reserve in Kedah, and in Ijok Forest Reserve in Perak. The representation of economic tree species is low and from the management view point the regeneration of this forest type is a problem.
