2 March 2016 (Wednesday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) had successfully organised a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme yesterday at the FRIM Research Station in Jeli (SPF Jeli), Kelantan, involving about 60 participants from the local community members and school students.

The programme was officiated by Jeli District Officer Mohamed Nor Husin. Mohamed later planted a balau singkawang air (Shorea sumatrana) tree to mark the special occasion; whilst Abd Aziz planted a meranti sengkawang merah (Shorea singkawang) tree.

Following that, 30 form two students from SMK Batu Melintang, who were accompanied by their teacher, Wan Aida Wan Alim, planted 100 Citrus hystrix (limau purut) saplings.

Among others, the students also participated in a quiz competition. Senior citizens from nearby villages who were invited to attend the programme were presented with donations from the FRIM CSR funds.

The programme, coordinated by the FRIM CCU and Forestry Biotechnology Division, aimed to promote SPF Jeli and celebrate the International Day of Forests (IDF) with the local communities.

This event is the first of a series of activities to be conducted by FRIM this month in celebration of IDF 2016, themed ‘Celebrating forests and water’, which falls on 21 March.
