27 January 2016 (Tuesday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) received a visit by a delegation from the Republic of China’s State Forestry Administration (SFA) and China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA) yesterday morning.
The delegation comprised the SFA Wildlife Conservation Department Director General (DG), Zhang Xiwu; the SFA Supervision Department DG, Zhang Xiwen; and the China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA) Vice President, Zhong Yi.
The group, accompanied by several representatives from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), was greeted by FRIM officials led by Deputy DG (Research) Dr Ismail Harun, who gave them a briefing about FRIM.
Also present were FRIM Forest Products Division Director Dr Gan Kee Seng; Forestry and Environment Division Director Dr Samsudin Musa; Wood Quality and Non-Wood Products Programme Head Dr Mohd Tamizi Mustafa; Senior Researcher, Dr Wan Tarmeze Wan Ariffin; and Corporate Communication Head Norhayati Nordin.
After the briefing and discussion, the delegates were led to the FRIM Bamboo and Palma Gallery for a visit before their departure.
The delegation was in the country to hold a discussion with the government to review the agreement on the Giant Panda International Conservation Cooperation Programme in Malaysia; as well as to conduct a study visit to learn about Malaysia’s national protected areas and biodiversity conservation programme.
