Museum

FRIM’s Museum began its history as a humble display of wood and other forest-associated product at the Forest Department headquarters at Court Hill in Kuala Lumpur, in late nineteenth century. When FRIM was established, this was one of the first sections to be moved to Kepong.

It has slowly been improved over the years into a dynamic display providing insight into the forest ecosystems of the country, the varied uses of wood and other forest products in the everyday lives of people. Some of the artifacts displayed are outstanding examples of craftsmanship, while others speak of an age when men had to made innovative use of any available material in order to live more efficiently.

The museum also introduces visitors to some interesting biological facts and processes of the tropical forests. Visitors also see how modern technology is able to craft and reveal the beauty of wood, one the oldest materials used by man.
