22 December 2015 (Tuesday) – The Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), YB Datuk Ir Hamim Samuri has led a delegation of community members from Ledang for a visit to Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) in Kepong yesterday.
The aim of the study visit was to find out more about FRIM’s research activities related to herbs and to assess the potential of herbal medicine in generating economic resources.
The delegation was brought to the Kacip Fatimah Germplasm under the responsibility of Dr Farah Fazwa Mohd Ariff. There, Farah and other researchers, namely Siti Suhaila A. Rahman and Ahmad Fauzi Mohd Shariff briefed the visitors on the research activities.
Also present were the FRIM Director General (DG) Dato’ Dr Abd Latif Mohmod; Deputy DG (Operations) Dr Rahim Sudin; Deputy DG (Research) Dr Ismail Harun; Natural Products Division Director Dr Rasadah Mat Ali and Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation (BiotechCorp) Senior Vice President (Bioeconomy Programme & Delivery Management Division), Zurina Che Dir.
The Deputy Minister accompanied by the FRIM DG and Deputy DG (Research) also planted kacip fatimah (Labisia purmila var. alata, var. pumila and var. lanceolata) to commemorate the visit.
