19 February 2016 (Friday) – Two representatives from Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMEO BIOTROP), based in West Java, Indonesia, paid a visit to Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) in Kepong on 17 February to discuss common interests.
SEAMEO BIOTROP Director Dr Irdika Mansur and Deputy Director for Programme Dr Jess C. Fernandez were on a four-day visit to Malaysia since 15 February, aimed at expanding the centre’s network of partner institutions engaged in research and development (R&D) in agriculture and forest ecosystems in Southeast Asia.
They were greeted by FRIM Director General (DG) Dato’ Dr Abd Latif Mohmod explained to them about FRIM including its background, R&D programmes and activities. Also present was Biotechnology Programme Head Dr Norwati Muhammad.
The briefing was followed by a discussion on the possibility for collaboration in forestry biotechnology, among others.
Before departure, Irdika presented Abd Latif with a token of appreciation and received from the latter FRIM books as souvenirs.
Apart from FRIM, they also visited Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Universiti Putra Malaysia’s Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences; and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
