- To bring together scientists, particularly young scientists, from the Asian region to discuss their R&D pertaining to production of plants to meet food, health and biofuel security
- To highlight the importance of applications of biotechnology, genomics and the new technologies in addressing issues
- To be an enabler for future collaboration between senior scientists and young scientist towards a common goal for Asia
- To provide a platform for identification of strategic and collaborative research programmes which would be beneficial for this region
