DG launches FRIM’s Greening Malaysia Programme

11 January 2021 (Monday) - Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) Director General (DG) Dr Khali Aziz Hamzah launched the institute’s level Malaysia Greening Programme - 100 Million Tree-Planting Campaign at the FRIM Monthly Assembly this morning. He planted a tongkat ali (Eurycoma longifolia) tree to mark the occasion. Noor Azlin Appointed as FRIM’s New Deputy DG

1 January 2021 (Friday) - Dr Noor Azlin Yahya has been appointed as the Deputy Director General (Operations) of Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) effective today, replacing Dr Khali Aziz Hamzah who took over as the Director General (DG) post since 1 September 2020. Noor Azlin appointed FRIM’s Deputy DG (Operations) effective 1 January 2021. FRIM extends closure

31 December 2020 (Thursday) - Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has decided to extend the closure of its main campus as well as Kepong Botanic Gardens (KBG), Taman Warisan as well as the Forest Skywalk to visitors until a date to be announced later. This decision is in line with the extension of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in Selangor following the recent increase in COVID-19 cases. FRIM, Sarawak government to undertake R&D collaboration

9 November 2020 (Monday) - Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Sarawak State Government via Department Sarawak Forest (FDS) to collaborate in the research and development (R&D) of pest and disease management of forest plantations in the state. The documents was signed by Director General (DG) Dr Khali Aziz Hamzah representing FRIM and FDS by its Director, Datu Hamden Mohammad, while FRIM Forest Biodiversity Director Dr Lillian Chua and FDS Deputy Director Jack Liam signed the MOU as witnesses. FRIM to cease issuance of jogger pass, car sticker from 2021

21 October 2020 (Wednesday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) will stop the issuance of annual recreational passes as well as car stickers for joggers/visitors and only accept cashless payment starting 2021. From 21 August to 20 September this year, FRIM refunded a number of joggers for their 2020 annual recreational pass after receiving many complaints over its decision to close the main campus from18 March until this year-end. FRIM organises basic bryophyte identification course

9 October 2020 (Friday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) organised a Basic Bryophyte Identification Course on 15 September attended by 18 FRIM Herbarium staff to enhance their knowledge on bryophytes and the ability to identify them. Bryophyte, commonly known as moss, is a non-vascular, epiphytic, non-flowering plant and produces spores that are usually wind-dispersed. It is often used as a bio indicator due to its sensitivity to changes in environmental conditions, such as ambient temperature and humidity and it is often found in unpolluted areas. FRIM closes the Botanic Gardens and Skywalk starting tomorrow

4 October 2020 (Sunday) - Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has decided to temporarily close the Kepong Botanic Gardens (KBG), Taman Warisan and Forest Skywalk to visitors from Monday (5 October) until further notice. The FRIM management’s decision was taken as a precautionary measure to protect FRIM staff and visitors in view of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, especially in Selangor, which is increasingly worrying. MPIC Minister launches Community Plantation Programme

8 September 2020 (Tuesday) – The Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC), Dato' Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali, launched the Community Plantation Programme in Batu Kikir, Negeri Sembilan, yesterday.
