28 August 2020 (Friday) - The retirement and e-jari ceremony of Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) Director General (DG) Datuk Dr Abd Latif Mohmod and Finance Director Mohd Zamshari Abd. Rahman was held at the FRIM Administration Building this afternoon. They delivered their final speeches before handing over their tasks to their successors. Mohd Zamshari handed over the task file to his successor, Jumaaton Abu Bakar while Abd Latif handed over the file to FRIM DG (Operations) Dr Khali Aziz Hamzah. FRIM, FDPM organise a tree planting programme

26 August 2020 (Wednesday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and Forestry Department Peninsular Malaysia (FDPM) conducted a 'Tree Planting Programme in conjunction with the National Month' at the Bukit Lagong Tambahan Forest Reserve (FR), Kepong, yesterday. FRIM, JMG to cooperate in the ex-mining land restoration

18 August 2020 (Tuesday) - Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Minerals and Geoscience Malaysia (JMG) to collaborate in the greening and restoration research on ex-tin mining sites at the ‘Stesen Ujian Galian’ (SUGA), Malim Nawar, Perak. FRIM to refund recreational pass, vehicle sticker starting 21 August

5 August 2020 (Wednesday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) will open a counter at the Kepong Botanical Gardens (KBG) to process the refund of recreational passes and/or vehicle stickers starting 21 August to 20 September for pass holders who are dissatisfied with the closure of the FRIM main campus until this year end. Since 1 July, FRIM has reopened KBG and Taman Warisan while the FRIM main campus remains closed until the year-end. 27 July 2020 (Monday) – The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA), Dato’ Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah launched a book entitled, ‘Flora Mercu Tanda Negeri-negeri di Malaysia’ in Kuala Sepetang, Perak, yesterday. FRIM DG launches ‘Teratak Roslan’

13 July 2020 (Monday) - FRIM Director General (DG) Datuk Dr Abd Latif Mohmod launched the ‘Teratak Roslan’ cabin which he contributed personally to serve as an office for the Urban Forestry Branch (UF) staff involved in the health assessment as well as maintenance of hazardous trees and ornamental landscape plants on 9 July. Trees maintaining social distancing too

7 July 2020 (Tuesday) - The 'crown shyness' phenomenon formed at the crowns of kapur trees (Dryobalanops aromatica) seems almost like the trees are practising social distancing. The jigsaw-puzzle-in-the-sky-like formation is one of the most famous attractions at the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) campus, Kepong. The phenomenon caught the attention of National Geographic (Nat Geo) and they assigned a professional photographer, Ian Teh, to capture this phenomenon. Screen shot of the Nat Geo article.
