11 November 2019 (Monday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has conducted aRegional Workshop on ‘Domestication of Endangered, Endemic and Threatened Species in Disturbed Terrestrial Ecosystems’ on 7 and 8 November. The workshop, organised as part of the activities on technology transfer in the ASEAN-ROK Forest Cooperation Project (AFoCo), aims to share latest information and technologies on conservation efforts of threatened species particularly in the tropics across ASEAN. 7 November 2019 (Thursday) – The Minister of Water, Land and Natural Resources (KATS), Dr Xavier Jayakumar officiated the Taman Warisan Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) (FRIM Heritage Park) in Kepong on 5 November. The 1.76-hectare park has been developed since January 2017. Various endemic plant species found only in Selangor as well as trees synonymous with the names of places in Selangor such as meranti kepong, sentul, kundang, sepang and petaling were planted there. 4 November 2019 (Monday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) would like to remind all visitors not to enter prohibited areas within its campus especially the forest, planting plots, arboreta or nature trails without being accompanied by FRIM guides or staff to avoid any untoward incidents. On 1 November, a visitor was reported missing in FRIM forest. Yeam Sai Ming, 62, had fallen and injured his head after entering FRIM forest from 10.00 am and was only found by a rescue team, comprising members of FRIM enforcement, Selayang Fire and Rescue Station and Desa Jaya Police Station, at 6.30pm. 14 October 2019 (Monday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) bagged two major prizes at the Selangor Research, Development and Innovation (R,D&I) Expo on 10–13 October. FRIM’s innovation projects took top prizes of the R&D Competition and Pitching Competition at the expo held in Kuala Lumpur. 16 September 2019 (Monday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and AEON Co. (M) Bhd. conducted a tree planting programme on 14 September at the FRIM Research Station in Bidor (SPF Bidor), Perak. This programme, held for the second time by FRIM-AEON there, was launched by the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, YB Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. 26 August 2019 (Monday) - The Ministry of Water, Land and Natural Resources (KATS), Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and Forestry Department Peninsular Malaysia (FDPM) released the National Tree Stamps to mark the launching of merbau as the country's national tree. 8 August 2019 (Thursday) - Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has organised the 2019 FRIM Director General Trophy Innovation Competition for Selangor state schools to increase students’ interest in science as well as to raise awareness and knowledge on innovation. 25 July 2019 (Thursday) - Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) have signed an agreement for collaboration in research development and the implementation of legal aspects regarding FRIM's nomination as a world heritage site (WHS).   Abd Latif (left) and Abdul Wahab speaking at the ceremony.
