FRIM appoints new biodiversity director

28 January 2016 (Thursday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has appointed Dr Lillian Chua as the new Director for Forest Biodiversity Division effective 1 January 2016, replacing Dr Saw Leng Guan who retired on 10 December 2015.

FRIM Director General Dato’ Dr Abd Latif Mohmod presented the appointment letter at the FRIM monthly assembly on 22 January.

Chua (53) is also the Forest Health and Conservation Programme Head. She joined FRIM on 15 May 1992 as a research officer and received her PhD from University of Bath, United Kingdom in 1995.

She has published several award-winning books, such as ‘Plants of Krau’, ‘Malaysia Plant Red List – Peninsular Malaysia Dipterocarpoceae’ and ‘Forest Research Institute Malaysia: A Sanctuary for Threatened Trees’. She was awarded the FRIM Excellent Service Awards in 2009 and 2014; while in 2015, she received the FRIM Best Employee Award.
