23 April 2018 (Monday) – Nearly 100 volunteers comprising Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) staff and students from Universiti Kuala Lumpur British Malaysian Institute (UniKL BMI) gathered at FRIM yesterday for the FRIM Earth Day celebration.
In line with this year’s theme, “End Plastic Pollution”, FRIM also relaunched its ‘Say No to Plastics and Polystyrene’ campaign. The official ceremony, held at Dataran FRIM, was officiated by Deputy Director General (Operations) Dr Khali Aziz Hamzah who reminded everyone of the importance of doing their part daily in contributing towards this effort.
He later flagged off ‘Forest Cycle’ participants comprising members of Bike Rangers, Perkumpulan Wanita FRIM and Junior BioD Rangers, led by FRIM Administration Director, Liza Ismail and Bike Rangers’ Head, Abdul Halim Talha. The group cycled along the main roads in the campus to collect plastics for recycling or proper disposal. Ecocana Sports, which has been providing FRIM visitors bicycle rental service since 2013, sponsored 20 bicycles for the activity.
UniKL BMI students, accompanied by Student Development and Campus Lifestyle Deputy Dean Azrul Hisyam Abdul Rahman, conducted ‘gotong-royong’ to clean areas around the FRIM Visitor Information Centre (VIC) and along the Bukit Bujang-Taman Bidara mountain bike trail.
