FRIM plants trees, celebrate environment day
5 June 2021 (Saturday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) Director General (DG) Dr Ismail Parlan and his wife Norazian Adam planted mulberry, putat, kaffir lime and key lime trees in their yard in Rawang this morning in conjunction with World Environment Day celebration.
FRIM staff and family members also planted trees today. They included Forestry Biotechnology Director Dr Mohd Zaki Abdullah; Administration Director Liza Ismail; FRIM Research Station in Bidor (SPF Bidor) Coordinator Dr Ang Lai Hoe; Dr Sharmiza Adnan (FRIM Product Certification Services Managing Director); Nik Azyyati Abdul Kadir (Environmental Education Branch); Amrah Toha (DG Office); Rashidah Hasnim (Ecohydrology Programme); Muhammad Fakrullah Haziq Hashim (Forest Biodiversity); Mohd Nazri Abdul Latif and Edi Hermi Muhamad Ramli (Corporate Communication Unit); Mohamad Izham Mohd Ariffin (Forestry Biotechnology); Salen Ismail and Latifamir Ibrahim (Workshop and Vehicle Unit); Zaidi Azis (SPF Mata Ayer); Wan Nafizul Hal-Alim Wan Ahmad (Ecotourism and Urban Forestry Programme) and Musalmah Nasardin (SPF Pasoh).

Ismail congratulated everyone who participated in this activity as a show of concern for the environment though with this small contribution which actually has a great impact.
“These are ecosystem-friendly trees will contribute to a better climate, while produce oxygen and serve as carbon sinks,” he said.
He also hope that the Worldd Environment Dau celebration would promote the culture of environment appreciation in all aspects of life such as recycling practice, the use of disposable plastic bags and disposing of rubbish in the right place, especially amongst the younger generation.
World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June. It was introduced in 1972 by the United Nations at a conference held in Stockholm, Sweden. Since 1974, the World Environment Day aimed at promoting global awareness as well as enhancing action in addressing these environmental issues has been celebrated by 143 countries.
