27 May 2023 (Saturday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has received the National Book Award 2023 (‘Perdana’ Category: Research Institution) at the award ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

FRIM Director General (DG) Dr Ismail Parlan received the trophy and certificate from DYMM Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Al-Maghfur-Lah.

FRIM was selected by the National Book Development Foundation (YPBN) and the National Book Award Professional Evaluation Panel in acknowledgement of the Institute’s contribution to promoting scientific publications on tropical forest conservation and protection, forest biodiversity, utilisation of timber and other resources, reforestation as well as environmental conservation.

The evaluation was based on the books published by FRIM.

Also present, Deputy DG (Research) Dr Norwati Muhammad, Technical Services Director Sarifah Kunju Ahmad, Corporate Communication Head Toh An Nee and Media Officer Lim Chung Lu.

FRIM has achieved outstanding accomplishments by winning the National Book Award in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2022.

FRIM has also won the ASEAN Book Award 2019 in the Research Institution category.

Ismail also took the opportunity to visit FRIM’s book exhibition booth at the 2023 Kuala Lumpur International Book Festival after the award ceremony.
