FRIM wins four golds at ITEX’18

21 May 2018 (Monday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) won four gold medals at the International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition 2018 (ITEX’18) held in Kuala Lumpur earlier this month.

The FRIM innovation project teams who participated in ITEX’18 were:  

  • Sustainable production of tongkat ali bioactive compounds from hairy roots culture using bioreactor technology led by Dr Nor Hasnida Hassan;
  • Elite clone of Labisia pumila(kacip fatimah) and rapid mass production technique for sustainable supply of high quality planting materials (Dr Farah Fazwa Md Ariff);
  • MyWood-ID (Dr Mohd Tamizi Mustafa); and
  • Ciéra ecofriendly multi purpose disinfectant (Dr Mastura Mohtar).

Mastura’s project also clinched the Best Innovation Award for the Household Product Category.

SMK Palong Timur Segamat, a FRIM smart partner school also won the ‘Best Invention Award- Secondary School’ at the 29thInternational Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition 2018 held in conjunction with ITEX’18.

The ‘Pata Gos’ innovation project an idea developed by the students’ after a brainstorming with scientists from the FRIM Natural Products Division. FRIM also helped the students in the raw materials processing.
