FRIM receives two more MBR recognitions

27 November 2019 (Wednesday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has received two more Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) certificates, i.e. the 39th and 40th recognitions at MBR Headquarters, Kuala Lumpur this afternoon. The certificates were presented by MBR Marketing Director Jwan Heah to: Dr Mohamad Omar Mohamad Khaidzir (Wood Quality and Engineering Programme) for ‘Oldest Operational Timber Testing Machine’ and Dr Kevin Ng Kit Siong (Genetic Branch) for ‘First Laboratory to Provide Timber Tracking Services Using DNA Approach’. FRIM conducts AFoCo regional workshop on threatened species domestication

11 November 2019 (Monday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has conducted aRegional Workshop on ‘Domestication of Endangered, Endemic and Threatened Species in Disturbed Terrestrial Ecosystems’ on 7 and 8 November. The workshop, organised as part of the activities on technology transfer in the ASEAN-ROK Forest Cooperation Project (AFoCo), aims to share latest information and technologies on conservation efforts of threatened species particularly in the tropics across ASEAN. KATS Minister launches Taman Warisan FRIM

7 November 2019 (Thursday) – The Minister of Water, Land and Natural Resources (KATS), Dr Xavier Jayakumar officiated the Taman Warisan Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) (FRIM Heritage Park) in Kepong on 5 November. The 1.76-hectare park has been developed since January 2017. Various endemic plant species found only in Selangor as well as trees synonymous with the names of places in Selangor such as meranti kepong, sentul, kundang, sepang and petaling were planted there. FRIM, Selangor government raise environmental awareness among students

6 November 2019 (Wednesday) - Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has organised an environmental awareness programme on 'Understanding Dipterocarp Species: The Icon of Our Lowland Forest' for students with the support of the Selangor Government yesterday. This year, FRIM has received funds from the state government through the Environment, Green Technology, Science, Technology and Innovation and Consumer Affairs Committee, Smart Selangor, Selangor State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) to implement environmental awareness programmes. Do not enter FRIM prohibited areas

4 November 2019 (Monday) – Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) would like to remind all visitors not to enter prohibited areas within its campus especially the forest, planting plots, arboreta or nature trails without being accompanied by FRIM guides or staff to avoid any untoward incidents. On 1 November, a visitor was reported missing in FRIM forest. Yeam Sai Ming, 62, had fallen and injured his head after entering FRIM forest from 10.00 am and was only found by a rescue team, comprising members of FRIM enforcement, Selayang Fire and Rescue Station and Desa Jaya Police Station, at 6.30pm.
